Newcastle vs Leeds postponement latest as weather warning extended

Leeds travel to Newcastle in their next Premier League encounter on Wednesday.

Leeds secured a well-earned point against Manchester United last time out, taking their unbeaten run to seven matches.

Daniel Farke‘s side have won two and drawn five since their 3-2 loss to Manchester City on 29 November, and they will hope to continue at St James’ Park.

The trip to face Eddie Howe‘s side on 7 January will not be easy, and it may have been made more complicated by the weather.

Yellow weather warning issued for Newcastle

The Premier League clash between the sides is expected to go ahead despite a weather warning being in place for Newcastle on Tuesday 6 January until 11am.

The Met Office issued the snow and ice alert, stating that: “Scattered snow showers and icy patches have the potential to cause disruption to travel in places on Monday into Tuesday morning.”

The warning was updated on 4 January, with the government’s weather agency, saying: “Whilst snow showers will ease on Monday night, an ice risk will continue through to Tuesday morning with the warning end time extended.”

However, there is no mention of adverse conditions for the day of the contest, so there is no imminent threat of a postponement.

Why Leeds will want Newcastle clash to go ahead at all costs

Right now, Farke’s main task is keeping up the momentum, his side have not been beaten in seven matches, and if they keep up this form, they should survive.

Any kind of break, like a postponement, could be disastrous, as it could zap the energy and rhythm that the Whites are currently playing with, away in an instant.

Therefore, Farke and Co. will be glad that it looks like there is no chance of the game being called off, and adverse conditions will not make their schedule harder.

His side needs to be playing regularly, to keep up the levels that they are right now, and pull themselves away from any potential drama towards the end of the season.

If it were postponed, it would mean the potential of a fixture backlog for the LS11 side, which could put them back into the relegation mix and undo all their hard work from the last few weeks.

They would not want that to happen, and luckily, it does not like it will, given that the warning is not in place for the day of the game.
