Newcastle United want Tyler Adams after what he did for Leeds United in late-December
Newcastle United are interested in Tyler Adams with the Leeds United midfielder available for £30million, according to The Telegraph.
It’s believed the Magpies were impressed with the 24-year-old character and combative nature when he played at St James’ Park on 31 December 2022 during the Whites’ goalless draw (The Telegraph, 8 June).
It’s understood that Newcastle are looking to extract value for money after being quoted “extremely high” price tags at present due to their Saudi Arabian ownership.
Inevitable
Surely Adams’ exit is now looking like a foregone conclusion. The midfielder has been a standout performer during the 2022/23 season and if he had remained fit, the outcome of Leeds’ campaign could well have been different. There are very few players who can walk around Elland Road with their heads held high; the 24-year-old certainly can.
He will have ambitions of playing Champions League football. The Championship wouldn’t have been on his agenda at any point after completing his move to Elland Road.
It’s now up to Leeds to make a decision when it comes to Adams. £30million is a significant sum and that sort of money could help fund a Championship winning squad. We’ve seen with Luton and Coventry how big sums of money aren’t always required to gain promotion.
Regardless of what happens with Adams, a decision needs to be made quickly. The new manager will have little time to assemble a new squad and having funds available could be key.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that a Whites senior player is now set to leave the club at a discounted fee post-relegation and will not be signing a new contract.
