Newcastle back away from Leeds United star Jack Harrison due to asking price

Leeds United have been given a major transfer boost as Newcastle have now backed away from Jack Harrison, according to the Daily Mail.

Eddie Howe’s Magpies have been linked with a move for Harrison for some time but appeared to step up their pursuit of the former Manchester City winger recently.

However, the Daily Mail reported early on Saturday morning (23 July) that they have been put off by Leeds’ high evaluation of the forward and will now move on to other targets.

The report outlines that Leeds have dug their heels in over their £35million valuation of Harrison and The Whites will not budge on that price.

Harrison has been a crucial player under both Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch, grabbing 25 goal involvements in the Premier League so far.

Quite right

Leeds are absolutely right to dig their heels in and refuse to sell given how their transfer window has gone so far.

They have already had to sell both Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, meaning they are under absolutely no financial pressure to sell Harrison.

Fans have already been disappointed by the modest fee the club received for Phillips relative to how much high-profile English players usually go for, so refusing to budge on Harrison is a refreshing change.

The club can now focus on filling the few gaps in their squad, with Leeds still working on a deal for PSG striker Arnaud Kalimuendo and look ahead to the new season.

With Harrison now seemingly staying around for the new season, fans can look forward to him and Luis Sinisterra on the wings supporting Brenden Aaronson and Patrick Bamford or potentially Kalimuendo.

The Leeds squad now has a completely different feel to it than it did just a few months ago and The Whites could be in for a very strong season if they hit the ground running.

In other Leeds United news, Paul Robinson has suggested that Jamie Shackleton could now be surplus to requirements.
