New twist emerges on Mateusz Bogusz exit from Leeds United amid update from LAFC
It remains unclear if Mateusz Bogusz will join Los Angeles FC as an under-22 player as the midfielder closes in on his Leeds United exit, according to American journalist, Josh Gross.
UD Ibiza confirmed (24 March) that they had reached an agreement with Leeds for the cancellation of his loan deal with a move to the MLS in the pipeline.
However, Gross, who covers LAFC for Inside SoCal Sports, revealed Bogusz won’t be moving to the West Coast of America as a “young designated player” (Young DP).
“Heads up: For now, hold off on calling Mateusz Bogusz a U22 player,” wrote Gross (via Twitter, 25 March).
“It’s unclear to me if he’ll join the team as a U22 or a regular signing. Either way, this does not appear to be a Young DP move. More info when I get it.”

This added confusion shouldn’t impact Bogusz’s impending Elland Road departure, it appears to be the minor details which are being ironed out. This is one for the board to sweep under the table. They’ve got a number of impressive youngsters on their books and all of them can’t be success stories.
Perhaps the loan move to Ibiza has impacted his development slightly, with the Spanish side struggling at the bottom end of the Secunda Division. He needs to be playing regular football, but doing so in the right environment is absolutely key.
Leeds must ensure they continue to persist with their recruitment of younger players. The likes of Sonny Perkins and Mateo Joseph have made an impact in the 2022/23 season and could go on to be significant assets in the future.
It’s a low-risk and high-reward policy from the board which will undoubtedly reap rewards going forward. Bogusz is one to put firmly in the past.
