New Leeds United talks held in bid to sign Manuel Benson as January transfer update emerges from Belgium
Leeds United have held new talks over the potential January signing of Burnley winger Manuel Benson, according to Sacha Tavolieri.
The Belgian journalist reported via his X account on Thursday (25 January) that the Whites are continuing to push for a deal to sign the Clarets’ wideman, with fresh discussions being held on Wednesday (24 January) with Burnley.
Tavolieri had previously revealed that Daniel Farke’s side were keen on signing the 26-year-old this month as they look to add to their wide options for the second half of the season, especially if Wilfried Gnonto completed an exit in the January window
Writing on X, he said: “Leeds United keep pushing for Manuel Benson as revealed last week. New round of talks happened yesterday with Burnley.”
Get him in
This would be a real boost to Leeds United’s automatic promotion hopes this season as Benson is not only an excellent footballer but a player with a real understanding of what it takes to be successful in the Championship.
While he has struggled for consistent minutes in the Premier League, only making five appearances this season, he played 37 times as Burnley won the Championship last season and managed to score 13 goals and lay on four assists for his teammates.
Farke already has a lot of wide options in his squad at Elland Road, but as the Whites look to kick on the second half of the campaign, Benson would add an extra dimension to the German’s attack that none of the other wingers in his squad possess.
With Dan James also coming off injured during the Championship win over Norwich City, the 26-year-old could well deputise for the Welshman if he is facing an extended spell on the sidelines.
