New Leeds signing Karl Darlow has tipped the club to have a ‘special season’ this year

New Leeds United signing Karl Darlow, who arrived from Newcastle on 29 July, has tipped the club to have a “special season” in an interview with LUTV.

Darlow has instantly given a salute to the passionate Elland Road crowd, revealing his view that the fans could play a massive part in helping the side in the Championship this season.

The ex-Newcastle man has arrived at Leeds as the club’s priority target to strengthen between the posts with Illan Meslier still expected to leave the club this summer, and will have done no harm to his reputation among the fans with these comments.

Speaking to LUTV in his first interview with the club, Darlow stated: “When this place is bouncing it’s intimidating to come as an away team. If we can get the fans behind us and play good football and attractive football and winning matches then everything adds up and it could be a special season.”

The shot-stopper was then asked whether playing in front of the Elland Road crowd was a big part in bringing him to the club when he revealed: “Absolutely, especially when you see how passionate they are. I have just come from one club that are very, very passionate about their football to another so it’s something that I am used to and something that I am excited to carry on throughout my career.”

Everybody pulling in the same direction

It is important at any football club, especially one like Leeds United and one in the state that they find themselves in following relegation from the Premier League, for the fans and the players to feel the connection between one another, and for everybody to pull in the same direction.

When the fans and the players are working in tandem, everybody at Elland Road knows how that result ends. There is simply nothing better in football than a packed stadium rocking with noise as the team puts in a performance worthy of their support.

For Darlow to come into the club and instantly look to create this connection with the fans shows that Leeds have got their hands on a player who is not only very talented but also an excellent fit for the values and traditions of the club.

If there’s one way of winning over the crowd at Elland Road, it’s by putting in the performances on the pitch. If the team can help create the ‘special season’ Darlow speaks of, the fans will certainly follow suit in their backing.
