New Jesse Marsch assistant Toshack only on short-term contract at Leeds United
Cameron Toshack is only on a deal until the end of the season as Jesse Marsch’s new assistant manager at Leeds United, according to Jon Mackenzie.
Speaking on the MLS’ Twitter Space on Wednesday [2 March], the head of content at Analytics FC reported that while Marsch is on a three-and-a-half-year deal at Elland Road, Toshack is only on a six-month contract.
The data expert, whose Analytics FC did an in-depth piece on Toshack in December, said: “He’s obviously been given a three-and-a-half-year deal so the assumption is that he is going to be around for a while.
“What caveats he has in terms of going down, I absolutely don’t know.
“What I do know is that his assistant manager is a coach who is from the UK and he’s only on a six-month contract so make of that what you will.”
David Gass, an American journalist who was hosting the MLS’ space replied, saying: “Interesting.”

Short-term planning
While the appointment of Marsch comes across as a long-term move by Andrea Radrizzani, hiring Toshack does not.
Marsch will no doubt have people in mind when it comes to assembling his backroom staff and maybe the American hasn’t yet been able to get those people in.
It may be easier in the summer due to obvious reasons and that could be why Toshack is only at Leeds on a short-term basis.
It could also be down to Toshack.
The Welshman, 51, has had experience as a manager, taking charge of Swansea’s Under-19s and Under-23s before managing Cypriot team Pafos between 2019 and 2020.
He left them in October 2020 with the highest win percentage of any manager in their history and may want to return to management in the near future.
There’s also the fact that Toshack’s father, John Toshack, who’s in intensive care in hospital due to COVID-19 [WalesOnline].
We wish him all the best in his recovery and our thoughts are definitely with Cameron and the rest of his family in this case.
In other Leeds United news, one of Leeds’ players appears to have returned from injury as he’s been spotted in first-team training this week.
