Neville Southall: £140,000-a-wk ace would be ‘Brilliant’ PL signing for Leeds

Former Everton goalkeeper Neville Southall claims that Liverpool’s James Milner would be a “brilliant” signing for Leeds United this summer.

Milner, 34, began his career at Elland Road and since leaving in 2004 he’s won Premier League titles with Liverpool and Manchester City, the Champions League and played 61 times for England.

He is truly a Premier League great but he’s only started eight times in the league for Jurgen Klopp this season and Southall has suggested that a potential romantic return to Leeds is something to maybe keep an eye on this summer.

“I also like James Milner – people want to talk about big names but Milner has played in different positions and has never let them down,” Southall told iNews.

“He’s not a Gazza but he is the type of player you want in your dressing room as that’s what clubs are built on – good, solid pros.

“He reminds me of Paul Power, who came to Everton from Manchester City and helped us win the league.

“Milner would be brilliant for Leeds next season but at Liverpool he can come in and have a rest and, at 34, that’s important.”

You cannot talk us out of saying that Milner would be a good signing for Leeds.

Many will point to the midfielder’s age but Pablo Hernandez has been one of the best players at Elland Road for Marcelo Bielsa and he’s older than the former Leeds academy product.

Milner would be a sensational signing.

He would add a whole lot of Premier League experience that this squad currently lacks and his ability to play in a few different positions means that Bielsa will use him regularly.

One major issue with Milner is that he still has two years left on his £140,000-a-week [Spotrac] contract at Anfield.

Would he be willing to take a pay-cut to take on what is bound to be a more difficult task at Elland Road? We very much doubt it.

In other Leeds United news, this central midfielder has said he will “100 per cent” leave on loan this summer.
