Neil Warnock makes new Leeds United prediction after what he saw recently

Leeds United took a dent to their Championship title hopes with a 1-0 defeat against Portsmouth on Sunday afternoon.

Daniel Farke’s side remain top of the table but level on points with Sheffield United and only two points clear of Burnley, meaning there is everything to play for in the remainder of the campaign.

With both Sheffield United and Burnley playing on Tuesday, either side could go to the top of the table before the Whites take on Millwall on Wednesday (12 March).

Neil Warnock makes Championship prediction

Just weeks ago, Farke’s men were sitting fairly comfortably at the top of the Championship table but the change in form serves as a reminder of just how difficult promotion from the second tier is.

Leeds are still in the driving seat with Sheffield United still needing to go to Burnley, but everything is up in the air, even after one defeat.

The race for promotion in the Championship.

After losing at Wembley last season, automatic promotion is the only goal at Elland Road, whether that be finishing top or second.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (11 March, 7:39 am) Neil Warnock admitted he does see Leeds going up, despite what everyone is saying: “People will be talking about them [Leeds] blowing up now but they’re all nervous at the top. Probably Burnley relaxing a bit, but the games are thick and fast now, two games this week.

“I just think that they [Burnley] have got half a chance now. I don’t think anybody can say who it’s going to be.

“You can say Leeds will blow it but I think Daniel’s a good manager and I still think Leeds will go up. But I do think Burnley are the dark horses now.”

Leeds United have opportunity to get back on track

It’s incredibly tight at the top of the Championship table and, as Warnock says, that makes it difficult to call who will take the title this season.

Farke’s side have shown their quality throughout the season so far and although they will be disappointed with their performance against Portsmouth, they have enough in them to secure automatic promotion.

However, Burnley are also a massive threat due to how well organised they have been defensively this term, which makes them hard to beat.

Promotion is the only thing that matters this term, but the nerves could be a lot for supporters to take over the coming weeks between now and the end of the season.

Whatever the results of both Sheffield United and Burnley on Tuesday will put pressure on Leeds to perform, but they may have to get themselves used to that feeling with plenty of big games to come.
