Neil Warnock makes Leeds United and Burnley claim after Sheff Utd defeat
Neil Warnock has jokingly claimed Leeds United and Burnley will be happy to play out a draw after Sheffield United were surprisingly beaten by Hull City on Friday.
Not only do the Whites now have a game in hand on their title rivals but they’re still one point ahead of the Blades in the table.
Speaking live on Sky Sports in quotes relayed by Lee Sobot via X (24 January), Warnock acknowledged it Leeds and Burnley, who play each other on Monday, will be happy with the Blades’ 3-0 defeat in his own inimitable style.
“They’ll be happy won’t they Burnley and Leeds, they’ll probably agree to have a draw on Monday without playing,” he said.
The ball is now in the Leeds United court after what happened to Sheffield United
Since the 2024/25 season started, Leeds and the Blades have been battling it out for the top spot.
The fact that Chris Wilder’s men received a two-point deduction has likely helped matters with just a one-point gap between the two teams at the moment.
Although the Whites have one of the strongest teams in the second tier, there’s likely always been a thought lingering in the back of fans’ heads that they could drop out of the top two spots, especially after what happened last season.
However, now that Hull have done Daniel Farke and his men a favour, they need to make the most of the lifeline they’ve been handed and beat Burnley on Monday.

Not only would this put them four points ahead of their Yorkshire rivals but it would also put them six points ahead of Scott Parker’s men which is a more than decent gap.
Only time will tell what the future holds but for now, the ball is in Leeds’ court.
In other Leeds news, Victor Orta could seal his best signing for the Whites without even being part of the West Yorkshire club.
