Neil Moxley blasts Sam Allardyce after what Leeds United manager said

Journalist Neil Moxley blasted Leeds United boss Sam Allardyce for his words following his return to the game last week, as featured in the Sunday People, [Page 54, 07 May].

Big Sam claimed that he was on par with the likes of Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta as a manager.

Allardyce witnessed his Leeds team lose 2-1 to Manchester City on Saturday, despite a late scare for the hosts. He now has just three games to prevent relegation to the Championship.

It was more like bluster and mind games to take the focus away from the Whites’ squad but Moxley was far from impressed at what the one-time England manager had to say for himself.

“Sam Allardyce really wants to get over himself,” he stated.

“No sooner was he installed as Leeds’ boss for four games than he was defending his record. Which is fair enough.

“Until he claimed he was on a level with Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp. It’s one thing saying that, it’s another actually proving it.

“The fact is when Allardyce had the sniff of a big job – with England – he couldn’t manage to keep it. Which kinda suggests he’s not on that level, after all.”

Instant impact already

The reaction to his appointment and comments shows that Allardyce has made an impression already, but not quite the immediate impact on the pitch that was required.

It was always going to be an uphill task to take points off this rampant City side, but the late stages of the game will provide encouragement. Rodrigo’s goal created tension in the final minutes with the chance to snatch a draw.

It wasn’t to be, but the Leeds supporters were happy with the application of their players, given the acclaim they received post-match. Already, Allardyce has installed some more grit and desire, particularly around second balls as evidenced by the goal.

They will all need to fight to the very end with just three games to go.

What is guaranteed is that the veteran boss will ensure the next few weeks are more colourful with a couple more headlines to come as he readies every trick in the book in the aim of securing a great escape.
