NBA star spotted leading Leeds United chant after Bamford gesture

Patrick Bamford has fallen out of favour at Leeds United this season and hasn’t been named in Daniel Farke’s starting lineup in the Championship.

But the Englishman remains a popular figure at Elland Road and has made 16 substitute appearances in the second tier this term.

Bamford will always be held in high regard in West Yorkshire after he notched 17 goals and seven assists in the 2020/21 Premier League season.

Meanwhile, this season marks the second time Bamford has won promotion to the top flight with Leeds, albeit he was a more important player back in 2019/20.

Larry Nance Jr gets involved in Leeds promotion celebrations

Over the years, the Elland Road faithful have given Bamford a strong reception.

And the striker generously thanked supporters by leaving £5,000 behind the bar at The Old Peacock pub for fans to enjoy their first pint on him.

As reported by Leeds Live (29 April), one of the investors in 49ers Enterprises, NBA star Larry Nance Jr, was spotted leading a chant of ‘Marching On Together’ at the same pub before the Bristol City game.

Leeds could sanction Bamford’s exit in summer rebuild

The 31-year-old rightly remains a popular figure at Elland Road, who scored 16 goals in the 2019/20 Championship season as the West Yorkshire giants clinched the second-tier title.

If Farke’s men beat Plymouth in their final game of the season on Saturday, they will lift the Championship title at Burnley’s expense, but Bamford has not had a big part to play this time around.

The former England international is still under contract with Leeds until 2026, but the Whites could be willing to sanction his exit this summer.

Farke’s side must have a strong summer transfer window to prepare themselves for the Premier League and will need to bolster their forward line despite the free-scoring nature of their Championship performances this term.

But to help free up funds to strengthen their ranks, the West Yorkshire club will also have to sell some of their current assets, and Bamford would be an obvious player to sell given his lack of game time this season.
