National media scores Leeds United ace Karl Darlow 6/10 despite ‘Quiet’ int’l performance
Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow kept a clean sheet as Wales secured a 1-0 win against Montenegro in what was a “quiet” performance as national media reacted to his performance.
Darlow was not called upon throughout the game to make a single save due to what was a solid defensive performance from Wales, with teammate Joe Rodon also impressing.
His ability on the ball was the consistent attribute on display with several news outlets rating the keeper as a 6/10.
In a report after the game, Clwb Pel-droed stated (14 October): “It was a quiet night for Darlow on his second appearance with Montenegro offering little in terms of a goal threat bar a long range effort that struck the bar. He was composed playing our from the back and his distribution overall was good.”
Meanwhile, Darlow was described as a “calming influence” in a report from Wales Online.
Karl Darlow can challenge Illan Meslier for Leeds United shirt
Illan Meslier has certainly been in the spotlight this season, most recently due to a 97th-minute howler that gifted Sunderland a late equaliser in the club’s most recent fixture.

Calls have been made for the Frenchman to be dropped and with Karl Darlow pushing for a starting position, Meslier has to be able to bounce back from the error swiftly.
In what is such a close and competitive division this season, the difference in one and three points against the sides around you is often monumental for your chances of success come the end of the campaign.
The error ultimately continued Leeds’ winless run against the current top six, having failed to beat Norwich City, West Brom or Sunderland so far and with a trip to unbeaten Sheffield United on the horizon, Leeds have the chance to rectify that.
Darlow has demonstrated that he is more than capable at the Championship level and his consistent international experience continues to better him as a player.
It would be hard to see Meslier survive another mistake like his last, however Leeds would be in safe hands with the former Newcastle United man.
