National media clash on Leeds United ace Brenden Aaronson after what he did for USA vs Paraguay – ‘Mauled’

Leeds United ace Brenden Aaronson has faced mixed reviews on the international stage after the USA beat Paraguay on Saturday.

Souttar linked up with America for the international break as Mauricio Pochettino looked to continue a positive run of form with the Stars and Stripes.

The US secured a 2-1 win over Paraguay in Philadelphia, a week after Aaronson started in a Leeds defeat against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Aaronson arguably deserves more respect at Leeds, but he does seem to get that for the national side after coming in from the start against the White and Red.

The national media in his homeland are largely split on Aaronson’s showing as the USMNT won in a friendly against Paraguay.

Brenden Aaronson garners mixed reviews for USA vs Paraguay

Aaronson could have left Leeds in the summer, but stuck around at Elland Road and has played a regular role so far this campaign under Daniel Farke.

The German won’t want the attacking midfielder to feature too much on international duty, with the risk of injury representing a true fear in LS11.

The 25-year-old featured across 80 minutes for America on Saturday before coming off and being replaced by Sebastian Berhalter.

ESPN suggested that Aaronson put in a positive shift, rating him a 7/10 while sharing a positive review of his performance, “A quiet start to the game that then developed into a proactive performance in the second half. Connected well with the midfield and provided some line-breaking passes.

That was echoed by NBC Sports, who added: “One of his brighter days in a USMNT shirt. He’s in good form for Leeds, and he was sharper than usual here. Still not as precise with his passing and shooting as you’d like, but the energy and smarts are there.”

These positive reviews may be music to the ears of Leeds fans, but they don’t tell the full story from Subaru Park over the international break.

Aaronson mirrors Leeds United frailties on international stage

The attacking midfielder has had some positive moments in Yorkshire and has become an essential part of the squad.

In the Championship, Aaronson was a key player behind promotion back to the Premier League, despite his prior negative relationship with supporters.

The issues with his game have begun to become apparent in the top division once again, with his lack of physicality causing problems in LS11.

It appears that this is being echoed with America, after GOAL awarded him a rating of 6/10 against Paraguay after struggling in the midfield.

They said: “He got absolutely mauled all through the first half, but kept getting back up. Had a few good moments on the ball, but was generally knocked down before they turned into much.

That won’t be great reading for the Elland Road faithful who want to see more from the number 10 as the campaign progresses.
