Match of the Day pundit claims there will be 'uproar' if one thing happens to Leeds

Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer has said that there will be “uproar” if Leeds United are promoted without the season finishing.

Writing in his column in the Sun, Shearer said that not playing the remaining fixtures must be the last resort and that fixtures should be completed even if it means impacting on future competitions.

However, Shearer also said, “If, and it is a huge if, the season cannot be completed then there is no way you can have a winner or loser.

“If you cannot complete the fixtures then you cannot go handing out titles or consider relegating anybody.

“People have spoken of bringing Leeds and West Brom up from the Championship — but there would be uproar from other clubs.

“Sitting seven and six points above third with nine games to go, there is no guarantee they would finish in the top two.”

Leeds fans might not like this but to be fair to Shearer he does say that every effort must go into making sure the remaining fixtures are played this season.

This is key and it’s hard to see how titles can be awarded and promotion handed out without mathematical certainty.

We think next season should be delayed for as long as necessary and truncated if need be.

Games should also be played behind closed doors if that’s the only way of getting through the remaining fixtures.

These are unprecedented times and they call for unprecedented measures.
