MOT View: Serious incident caught on camera could hand huge opportunity to one Leeds player

There have been serious calls for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips to get a call-up to the England squad ahead of the Euros in the summer.

And he might have just been handed a huge opportunity after a serious incident involving Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier on Wednesday night.

After the FA Cup clash against Norwich, with Spurs having just gone out on penalties, Dier was filmed rushing into the stands to tackle a Tottenham fan.

It’s not been confirmed what was said, although the BBC has reported that he was insulted and his brother, who was in the stand, was involved in some way.

Jose Mourinho said he “did what we professionals cannot do but probably every one of us would do.”

The FA and Tottenham are investigating the incident.

Dier has struggled with fitness at the start of this season but has been a mainstay in the England squad.

He’s won 40 caps and scored three goals but it would seem that he’s set for an extended ban for his actions and that could open the door for Phillips.

We would imagine that Dier is unlikely to play much, if at all, between now and the end of the season if banned, which will surely rule him out of Gareth Southgate’s plans.

It would be huge for Phillips but, with just 10 games left in the Championship, do we really want our best player being called up to the England squad?

The international break happens after the game against Luton and ahead of the tough visit to Ewood Park. England play twice in that time, against Italy and Denmark.

We need our talismanic 24-year-old for every single game but no one would deny him a chance to complete a dream for England.

Or would we?
