MOT View: Big move could be close as Leeds pod claims £20m-rated striker has been at Thorp Arch
Leeds United fans are desperate for news on a striker signing and there was a really interesting snippet on the latest All Stats Aren’t We podcast.
The All Stats team were the first to point out that Leeds had bid £31.4m for Gent striker Jonathan David, something that was picked up later by Alan Nixon among others.
Now, the All Stats team has claimed that Stuttgart striker Nicolás González has been to Thorp Arch and Elland Road to look around the facilities ahead of a potential move.
They see González as more a left-sided option, similar to Said Benrahma, but the Argentine has been utilised a striker for Stuttgart and his country.
“Left-wing side, Leeds are looking at González seriously,” said Jon Mackenzie. “He’s been over to Leeds and had a look at the training facilities and the stadium.
“I think he’s the highest player on that [Leeds forward] list along with Said Benrahama.”
“González has been played as a striker,” Mackenzie added, “but only as a wide forward in a front two. He’s not a hold-up player. If he did come in he could play as a lone striker but would probably have to do a lot of work.”
This is a really interesting development.
The All Stats team have very good links around Leeds and other reports on González and Leeds have been getting stronger each day.
The forward had been linked with a move to Sampdoria, but SampdoriaNews claimed that he now has his heart set on a move to Leeds.
The Mirror had claimed that Marcelo Bielsa wants to sign him and thinks he could take the “Premier League by storm”. They said he was valued at £20m by Stuttgart.
González might not be a holding forward like Patrick Bamford, but his versatility around the three attacking positions would give Bielsa real options.
He could play alongside Bamford, out wide or even as the main forward if Bamford was taken off.
He reportedly wants to come to Leeds, Bielsa reportedly wants him and Stuttgart are said to be resigned to losing him.
It all sounds like a big move is getting close.
