MOT Super Fans: Bamford, Nketiah or both to start for Leeds v Preston?
This is part of a regular series from our panel of Leeds Super Fans. Each week, our Super Fans will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Elland Road and Thorp Arch
–––––––––––––––––
Leeds won the three points on Saturday that put the icing on top of the 100th birthday celebrations.
However, the 1-0 win against Birmingham at Elland Road continued the club’s poor scoring record at home this season. They’ve still yet to score more than a single goal at home.
That’s a problem for another day, though – November 2, actually. Before the next game at Elland Road, Leeds have two games away, starting with a trip to sixth-placed Preston on Tuesday.
The question we posed our Super Fans was: Given that Patrick Bamford and Eddie Nketiah shared the 90 minutes on Saturday and neither scored, who should lead the line on Tuesday?
For context, Bamford hasn’t scored since August. Nketiah scored his last in the league in mid-September but has been rattling them in for the England Under-21s.
This response wasn’t unanimous, but it was heavily in favour of giving Nketiah his first start in the league.
However, Bielsa isn’t going to budge. In his pre-match press conference, he revealed that he would name an unchanged line-up for the game at Deepdale.

There were two Bamford supporters. Daryl, who said he’d be interested in seeing both strikers start but that he “can’t see that happening” under Bielsa at the moment.
He’s tipped Bamford to go on a goal-scoring run once he breaks his drought.

The other was Adam Elliott who made a similar point but said that “hell will most likely freeze over” before Bielsa plays two up-front.
He said Nketiah’s pace was a weapon that should be stored up for later in the game.
