‘Most skilful player’: Monaco CB raves about barely-seen Leeds youngster to 5.5m Insta followers
Monaco centre-back Jonathan Panzo has said that Leeds United winger Ian Poveda is the ‘most skilful player’ he’s played with.
Panzo moved to Monaco from Chelsea for €3m last summer and took over the Instagram page of Soccer Bible on Wednesday.
In an extended Q&A that went out to its 5.5m followers, one of the questions he was asked was, “Who is the most skilful player you’ve played with?”
Panzo said, “Difficult one as well. I’m going to say Ian Carlo from Leeds.” Poveda made the clip his Instagram story.
Poveda – big things expected
This is exciting stuff given that Panzo has played in Ligue 1 and we’re expecting big things from Poveda next season. We think the youngster can make an impact in the Premier League.
The 20-year-old moved to Leeds from Man City in January but he’s had to be patient. After making the bench in his first two games he was dropped from the squad for the next seven.
He finally made his debut in the 2-0 defeat against Cardiff when the Championship restarted.
Poveda was then given his full debut against Derby County when Marcelo Bielsa made seven changes with the title already won.
He’s made just four appearances total for the first-team but we were lucky enough to see him up close and personal in several games for the Under-23s at Thorp Arch.
He showed enough there to make us believers and the diminutive winger showed some of his dazzling skills in the Championship.
The thing that struck us most was his maturity in decision making, on top of highly developed skills.
He’s quick, got a really low centre of gravity and can ghost past defenders. Leeds fans should be excited for what’s to come after a full preseason with Bielsa.
