Mixed injury update issued ahead of Norwich City v Leeds United

Leeds United travel to Carrow Road on Saturday with their opponents Norwich City delivering a mixed injury update ahead of the Championship clash.

Daniel Farke returns to his former club with Leeds sitting fifth ahead of the return to domestic action after the international break to face a Norwich side sitting seventh.

Speaking to the press ahead of the fixture, as quoted by the club’s official website (20 October), Norwich boss David Wagner confirmed Spanish winger Borja Sainz is available for selection.

He also said longer-term absentees Jacob Sorensen and Grant Hanley are back doing training with the first team, but the fixture with Leeds comes too soon.

Sainz was a summer arrival after leaving Giresunspor on a free transfer but has made just one substitute appearance in the Championship this season due to an ankle injury.

A tough fixture

Leeds and Farke will be under no illusions as to the difficulty they face in going to Carrow Road to face a Norwich side who are battling for promotion this season.

Farke, of course, knows the club extremely well having twice led the Canaries to promotion out of the Championship and the German will hope to use his knowledge of the club to mastermind another win at Carrow Road.

In Sainz, Leeds could end facing an element on the unknown given he has had an injury-hit start to life at Norwich, but that could end up be a good thing for Norwich so Leeds will have to be on their guard against the Spaniard.

Having said that, their main focus obviously has to be on themselves. Leeds are in a decent position after the second international break and will be looking to put together a string of results to really start making an assault on the top two.

Norwich are very tricky customers but if Leeds can come away with a result here then they would really be cementing themselves among the favourites for promotion.

In other Leeds United news, the club are finally free from Andrea Radrizzani after a Friday update.
