Millwall impress Leeds United with financial package for Charlie Cresswell as loan exit set for next week
Leeds United starlet Charlie Cresswell is heading for Millwall due to an impressive financial package on the table, according to Leeds Live.
Cresswell is highly rated at Leeds, but the presence of the likes of Liam Cooper and Robin Koch have made minutes hard to come by.
Interest in a loan move for the young defender has been high, with Leeds Live claiming that Millwall won the race as they proposed the best package that pleased the Whites.
The report also states that Millwall’s hostile atmosphere also helped convince Leeds of the move, believing it will better prepare him for life at Elland Road.
Finally, the report claims that there are “high hopes” that Cresswell will be a Millwall player inside the next week.
Set for stardom
Even though he has been limited to just 141 minutes of Premier League football, Cresswell is a hugely talented defender.
He was restricted in how much he could play for Leeds Under-23s last season, with his senior responsibilities limiting him to mainly 45-minute cameos.
Do not assume that because Leeds were relegated from the Premier League 2 Division 1 last season that Cresswell must be untalented, because their form with him says otherwise.
Leeds won just one of the 12 games they played without him, coming against bottom-placed Derby County.
When he played, Cresswell helped inspire the Young Whites to doubles over Liverpool and Crystal Palace and a win over Manchester United, all of whom finished in the top six.
This boiled down to Leeds winning 19 points in matches featuring Cresswell and just eight without him, showing his importance to the team.
Getting a full season of senior football under his belt will help Cresswell shine and could be invaluable in realising his potential.
In other Leeds United news, the club have reportedly agreed an instalment plan with Barcelona for Raphinha.
