Michael Skubala praises ‘lively’ Willy Gnonto after scoring winner for Leeds United u21s v Sunderland
Leeds United under-21s coach Michael Skubala believes Willy Gnonto could have scored more goals in the 1-0 win against Sunderland.
The Italy international scored the only goal for the team in the 53rd minute when he took the ball from Harvey Sutcliffe’s feet to get onto the score sheet.
Talking about the performance of the 18-year-old, as quoted by Yorkshire Evening Post, Skubala was full of praise for the youngster and called him “lively”.

“He’s got his first, he’s really happy,” he said.
“I think he was lively, I think he got a couple more [chances] so he could have had a couple more [goals] as the game went on, but I think he’s happy to get a goal.”
Big performance
Leeds had a relatively successful transfer window in the summer where they signed six first-team players.
One of the areas where Jesse Marsch was keen to strengthen before the window started was the attacking department where there was a clear overreliance on Patrick Bamford who has struggled with injuries in the last 18 months.
The Whites were linked with a number of targets but the only one they managed to bring in was Gnonto, that too on the final day of the window.

Ever since his arrival at Elland Road, the Italy international has not featured for the senior team as it was reported that Marsch was keen to give the youngster a much-needed time to adjust to new surroundings.
It is because of this reason the performance of the 18-year-old on Monday will give Leeds fans something to be excited about, especially at a time when the senior team is struggling to maintain their early-season form.
