Michael Skubala could be in charge of Leeds United for the rest of the season

Leeds United caretaker boss Michael Skubala is in position to take charge of the club for the rest of the season if needed to, according to a report from The Yorkshire Post.

The Whites are in the process of appointing their next manager following the sacking of Jesse Marsch, but they have struggled to lure their primary targets to Elland Road thus far.

The club could be looking to appoint a “stop-gap” manager, but it could well happen that they may have to bring in someone who is their fifth or sixth choice. The club have checked out five candidates last week, and Skubala, 40, taking charge of the club for the rest of the season is now a possibility.

Leeds are really struggling here to appoint their new manager in the middle of the season.

The Whites made an attempt to bring the likes of Alfred Schreuder, Arne Slot, and Andoni Iraola to Elland Road, but they are not available at the moment.

Marcelo Gallardo, the former manager of River Plate, was being considered as well and an offer was made. However, he has also ruled himself out of this job, with the linguistic barrier seen as a major obstacle.

Carlos Corberan was also under consideration but he signed a new long-term deal with West Bromwich Albion instead.

In such a scenario, the Whites could be forced to look into other names like Steven Gerrard or Nuno Espirito Santo. However, putting faith in Skubala won’t be a bad option.

In the past two games we have seen, Leeds have shown plenty of promise under him. The Whites were really unlucky to have lost 2-0 against Manchester United in their previous game at Elland Road.

They were undoubtedly the better team of the two, but they just couldn’t convert their chances. It will be interesting to see how it unfolds, but putting trust in the caretaker boss, if no other option is available makes a lot of sense.
