Michael Owen predicts Aston Villa will win 3-1 against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday even though they’re without star man Jack Grealish.
Grealish, 25, has been the star of the season for the Villans this term with the England midfielder scoring seven goals and supplied 12 assists in 23 appearances across all competitions.
However, he’s set to sit out a second consecutive match due to injury.
Dean Smith’s men were well beaten at Villa Park by Leicester last week but ex-Liverpool striker Owen expects the West Midlands club to rock up at Elland Road this weekend and beat Leeds.
Writing on the BetVictor website, Owen said: “I’m really looking forward to this one. Both these sides have been excellent to watch this season, and I’m expecting quite the tactical battle here.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that Villa will again set up to pounce on the counter-attack. If Leeds fall into that trap, I think they could be in trouble.
“By giving away a bit of territory, Villa should be able to spring forward and exploit a pretty weak Leeds defence. If that materialises, I think Villa will leave with the points.”
It’s no shock that you don’t see Owen on your television screens as much any more because he’s really not a great pundit.
Does he not think that Villa will struggle to score – let alone score three – against Leeds this weekend without their creator-in-chief Grealish? Does he not think Leeds’ defence will relish the prospect of playing against a Villa team without their best player?
He predicts Villa to expose Leeds on the counter-attack, claiming the Whites’ “weak” defence can be exploited.
However, according to stats by WhoScored, Leeds have conceded just twice from counter-attacks in the Premier League this season, which is fewer than Leicester , who kept a clean sheet at Villa Park last week.
Only two teams have scored more counter-attacking goals than Villa this season – and one of those teams is Leeds .
It’s just an odd claim by Owen, who really hasn’t done basic homework before coming up with his predictions.
In other Leeds United news, Mark Lawrenson has also predicted the result.
