Michael Owen predicts Leeds United defeat against 'brilliant' Manchester City side

Michael Owen believes recent good form will not be enough for Leeds United to get a positive result against Manchester City on Saturday evening.

United are currently five points above the relegation zone and have won three of their last five matches.

However, Owen feels that Manchester City’s recent form will ultimately be too much for Jesse Marsch’s side and he predicts a 3-0 win for the Citizens.

Writing in his Betvictor blog, Owen said: “It doesn’t come much more difficult than City.

“They looked in great for against Watford where Gabriel Jesus stole the show.”

He added: “Some of City’s play against Real on Tuesday was brilliant, they could’ve scored six or seven.

“I don’t think we’ll see quite as many goals here, but City should score a few.”

However, Owen did suggest that if Leeds can pick up anything it will be a massive boost to their survival hopes: “They’ve got some difficult fixtures coming up, they need to pick up points in those sort of games.”

Survival hopes

Leeds are in the driving seat when it comes to Premier League survival, with the Yorkshire side currently sitting in 16th place.

With Everton facing a tough test against Chelsea either side gaining a point would be massive in the relegation battle.

Much has been made of Everton’s tough run of fixtures, however, Leeds next three matches look far more daunting.

Given the calibre of opposition the Whites are facing, three back-to-back defeats would not be out of the question.

Burnley know that a win in a favourable trip to Watford this weekend could see them make significant ground up given the difficult fixtures Leeds and Everton face.

Although, there is potential for Watford to ignite one last bid for survival against a direct rival.

It is very much getting to the realms of last chance saloon for Roy Hodgson’s men and given Watford’s history, probably his time as manager as well.

After Leeds’ next three matches, we will have a far clearer picture of who will be dropping down to the Championship.

In other Leeds United news, a player who had a move to Leeds blocked by Bielsa would be perfect for Marsch.
