‘Great to watch’ – Michael Owen predicts result in Leeds clash v Burnley… and it’s a surprise
Michael Owen has predicted that it will be a “frustrating afternoon” for Leeds United at Elland Road after Christmas.
He thinks that the points will be shared with Burnley “sitting in and letting” Leeds come at them.
Writing in his regular column for BetVictor Owen said, “Leeds are earning plaudits for their attacking displays, but they must be concerned at the amount of goals they are conceding.
“Yes, they are great to watch, and when teams come at them they can certainly take advantage and hit hard and fast on the counter.
“That said, you need to be good defensively in this league if you are to be successful.
“They play a Burnley side that will have no problem sitting in and letting the home side come at them. If this materialises, there could be a frustrating afternoon ahead for Leeds and I can the points being shared.”
No pace but height
It’s a surprise prediction and one that goes against what most Leeds fans and the bookies think will happen at Elland Road.
The bookies have Leeds at odds-on to pick up the home win with the draw priced at 3/1.
Burnley are struggling and have scored the joint-least goals in the Premier League this season.
However, they do have the advantage of height with former Leeds striker Chris Wood leading the line.
He scored in the last game out for Burnley, an impressive 2-1 win against Wolves.
Owen is right when he says that Burnley will sit back and let Leeds come at them but we don’t think they’ve got enough to catch us on the counter-attack.
There’s no pace there to worry about and their one hope comes from the fact that Leeds can’t defend set-pieces.
However, Leeds will be working on this at Thorp Arch this week and we’re sure that Bielsa will be able to start getting to the root of the problem.
