Michael Owen: Leeds United are in a dangerous place

Michael Owen believes Leeds United are in a dangerous place with regards to their form and position, but expects them to improve in the coming weeks.

The Whites were humbled by Liverpool at Elland Road on Sunday, losing 3-0, and remain winless in the Premier League after four games this season.

Ex-England striker Owen thinks that they cannot afford to be as open as they have and need to change their approach in the coming weeks.

Speaking on the Premier League productions post-match show, he said, “I think it [Leeds style of play] is very dangerous to continue.

“If you look at it as a whole they’ll have the best attack and the worst defence, but you cannot do that.

“They will get better that’s for sure, but they’ve got to stop being so open without the ball.”

Fair point

There are many things to like about this Leeds side, but without the ball, there need to be improvements made quickly.

Going forward, they look easy on the eye and tend to create goal-scoring chances, but they need to be tight defensively as well.

This season, the Whites have been all over the place without the ball and while we’re not expecting Marcelo Bielsa to change too much, he’s certainly got to stop this side from shipping in so many goals.

New signing Junior Firpo has still not adapted well to life in the Premier League so he will need some more time before we can see him at his best.

In midfield, the likes of Mateusz Klich and Stuart Dallas have not been as robust as one would’ve expected them to be and these little things are what have been costing the Whites points in the Premier League.
