Michael Dawson stunned by ‘unbelievable’ Leeds United incident v Newcastle United
Michael Dawson was left stunned live on Sky Sports as Newcastle United were awarded a second penalty against Leeds United.
Goals from Luke Ayling and Junior Firpo saw the Whites secure a vital point to keep their survival hopes firmly alive.
Leeds had the chance to double their lead from the penalty spot but Patrick Bamford failed to convert. Dawson has since reacted to what was a chaotic afternoon at Elland Road.

“It’s unbelievable Jeff, you couldn’t write this [Newcastle penalty],” said Dawson on Sky Sports News (14:03, 13 May).
“Patrick Bamford in the first half – 1-0 up – misses the penalty, has the chance to go 2-0. Newcastle go down the other end, get the penalty and it’s 1-1. And they’ve just had a second one and they’ve tucked it away.
“I am not too sure what Firpo is doing.”
Something
Leeds needed to win, there’s no denying that fact, but a point keeps their hopes well and truly alive for the time being. There’s clearly more resilience under Sam Allardyce. They’re still conceding goals, but not at the alarming rate they once were. Furthermore, they’ve two of the Premier League’s best in their last two fixtures. There’s certainly reason to be positive heading into the last two matches of the season.
West Ham United could well be safe by the time the sides meet at the London Stadium. Furthermore, with Conference League final to potentially look forward to, David Moyes could well look to rest some of his squad. It’s an opportunity Leeds can ill afford to pass up.

Their fate will almost certainly go down to the final day. Tottenham will be an extremely tough test, but we all know what the North Londoners are like. They’re more than capable of putting in an abject performance. Let’s hope Spurs don’t have anything to play for come the last day of the season.
