Michael Dawson: Challenge on Raphinha looks horrendous

Michael Dawson labelled Romain Saiss’ challenge on Raphinha as ‘horrendous’ during Leeds United v Wolves on Saturday which ended 1-1.

The Whites salvaged a point through an injury-time penalty from Rodrigo, but the game was marred by an injury to Raphinha.

After Saiss’ challenge, he had to be withdrawn in the second half, and thus far there is no update on his current situation.

Discussing the incident on Sky Sports, Dawson, said, “He goes straight down Raphinha’s ankle and it’s only the second glance and it looks horrendous in slow motion.

“No yellow card, but he had to go off. These are worrying signs for Raphinha and Leeds.”

Had to get worse

Leeds were already having an injury crisis and it seemed like things were slowly getting back to normal.

Kalvin Phillips was on the bench for the Wolves game while Luke Ayling has also recently returned to training.

However, with those two recovering, the Whites now have Raphinha’s injury to worry about.

Leeds United

Looking at the incident, it doesn’t appear to be too good for the Brazilian and it will be a miracle if he’s back before the international break.

Jack Harrison and Dan James were both underwhelming on the afternoon while Joe Gelhardt was impressive off the bench.

Hopefully, Bielsa hands the youngster a start for the next game as James and Harrison clearly aren’t doing enough thus far.

We’re waiting on an update on Raphinha and are hoping that the early signs were misleading and that it’s not a serious injury.
