Micah Richards mocks Gary Lineker after Leicester City and Leeds United development
Micah Richards has mocked Gary Lineker after Leicester’s collapse at the top of the Championship allowed Leeds United back into the title race.
Leicester have won just one of their last five games in the division, with their run of form seeing their lead at the top cut from 17 points at one stage to just three points now with nine games remaining.
While appearing on the Rest is Football podcast (12 March) Lineker brought up the title race, which allowed Richards to get one over on his pal.
“Have you seen how horribly tight it’s getting in the Championship as well?” Lineker asked, before being wound up by Richards and Shearer with some oohing and ahhing.
“Leicester have got that thing hanging over them as well, the points deduction, which if they do go up they could get right at the start of next season.
“Only won one of their last five Leicester. Squeaky, squeaky, squeaky bum time,” he said.
Shearer then said it was “getting interesting”, while Richards declared there were “problems” at the King Power.
Lineker then asked why things were never easy after Leicester fluffed an 11 point lead, before Richards exclaimed that it was actually more than that at one point and then burst into a rendition of ‘Marching on Together’ to get on his co-host’s nerves a bit more.
Leeds United keep marching on together
The Championship season has been absolutely remarkable, with so many teams averaging amazing points tallies and pushing for the automatic spots.
But most people had settled on Leicester earning immediate promotion back to the Premier League after being so far ahead of the chasing pack for most of the campaign.
However, since we entered 2024 Leeds have been almost perfect in the Championship and that has really put the pressure on the Foxes and now people are seeing them crumble.
Richards did a great job of mocking Lineker, even if he is a Leeds boy that isn’t a fan of the club, and fans will know now that Leicester are certainly feeling the pressure in a way that they haven’t been previously.
Having already taken maximum points away from them this season, Daniel Farke must keep getting results to ensure any slips are taken advantage of to secure automatic promotion back to the top flight.
