Medical update emerges as Leeds United attacker Ian Poveda set for Elland Road exit

Sky Sports have shared a Deadline Day update on Leeds United attacker Ian Poveda amid links to Sheffield Wednesday.

The media outlet reported in their transfer centre [1 February, 20:55] that the 23-year-old is undergoing his medical at Wednesday.

He has struggled to be a first-team regular at Elland Road and will look to get his career back on track at Hillsborough.

Makes sense

The 23-year-old’s contract runs out at Elland Road in the summer and it remains to be seen what the nature of this deal is.

Loaning him out makes little sense as he’ll be a free agent within a few months and that won’t benefit the Whites.

He does not appear to be signing a new contract either so it’s fair to assume that he’s played his final game for the club.

Even if it’s a loan, there should be a nominal loan fee involved in the deal and he’s also expected to be taken off the wage bill at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke worked with him and did not seem pleased enough to make him a first-team player so it’s best for all parties that Poveda leaves.

He’s shown promise when he was under Marcelo Bielsa and it remains to be seen if he can achieve the same thing at Wednesday.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could now move fast to sign a West Ham defender with just a few negotiation points left to iron out.
