Medical scheduled: Mateusz Klich to complete Leeds United exit in next five days, verbal agreement in place
Mateusz Klich’s move from Leeds United to DC United is edging closer and could be completed in the next five days, according to Washington Post journalist Steven Goff.
The 32-year-old bid an emotional farewell at Elland Road on Wednesday night (4 January), following the 2-2 draw against West Ham United.
And that move to the US capital is on the verge of being completed, with the midfielder scheduled to have his medical in the coming days at his expected new club, according to the reliable US journalist.
Goff took to Twitter [5 January] to report the news, stating: “Mateusz Klich / D.C United update: Sides have verbal agreement on Designated Player contract but nothing signed yet, per sources. Polish midfielder bade farewell to Leeds yesterday. All signs point to sides closing deal soon. DCU opens training camp in earnest next week.”
“Update: Klich is scheduled to arrive in the DC area this weekend to, barring any last-minute physical or contractual issues, finalize the move, per sources.”
“My bad: That should’ve read Klich is scheduled to arrive within 4-5 days, not specifically this weekend.”
Right to Move on
Klich has without a doubt been a loyal and faithful servant to the Leeds United cause throughout his five years at the club, especially since enduring a difficult first year in Yorkshire.
The 32-year-old will certainly be remembered for his stunning performances and influence during Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure, becoming one of the manager’s trusted lieutenants on the way to the club’s historic return to the Premier League in 2020, following a 16-year exile.
And with his on-field influence waning and new coach Jesse Marsch ushering in a new era at Elland Road, it’s only right Klich seeks a move elsewhere, with him being a bit-part player under the American’s tutelage.
A move to the MLS seems the right one for the next step in his career, but for certain, no Leeds United fan on earth will want to forget about the Polish international in a hurry. A true cult hero.
