McCormack stunned by ‘incredible’ Leeds United announcement as 49ers plea made
Leeds United are in for a hectic summer period ahead of their Premier League return.
Being a Leeds United fan is cause for excitement this summer, though anxiety levels will be through the roof as long as the transfer window is open.
Given the gulf in quality between the Championship and the Premier League, Leeds have to recruit well, and a failure to do that would almost certainly see the Whites follow the trend of newly promoted sides dropping straight back down.
In order to do that, Ross McCormack has highlighted what the 49ers need to do in the coming months, and has also been encouraged by a recent reveal.

Elland Road expansion serves as encouragement at Leeds United
Most of the focus ahead of the Premier League campaign will be on recruitment, and rightfully so, given the importance that it will hold.
However, the Whites also have a whole load of decisions to make off the pitch, with it recently announced that Elland Road would be getting expanded.
Not only will it bring more revenue in the long term, but it will turn Leeds’ home into an even bigger fortress for teams to visit.
Stadium | Capacity |
Old Elland Road | 37,645 |
New Elland Road | 53,000 |
Via talkSPORT, McCormack said: “Honestly, it’ll be great to see them and watch them back in the Premier League, the atmosphere at that old stadium is incredible. You know, they’ve just announced plans to increase the stadium by, I think, 17,000, 18,000 seats, so it’s going to be incredible.”
As it stands, Elland Road has a capacity of 37,645, though the expansion could see that rise to 53,000.
49ers called into action as transfer claim made
The increased revenue from the Elland Road expansion will be great, though they can’t afford to let that take away from the investment needed this summer.
Leeds need several additions at worst, and with Farke said to have a budget of £150million, it seems as though McCormack’s plea will be answered.
The Scotsman said: “I think everyone at Leeds is under no illusions. I think, as I said earlier, it’s been proven last season, the three teams that went up, how big that gap is to try and stay up.
“First and foremost, that’s what they’ve got to try and do, and I think the owners have got to get their chequebooks out to do that.”
Of course, spending a large amount of money doesn’t guarantee you anything, though it certainly boosts your chances of recruiting top talent.
Leeds will be looking to sign a new goalkeeper amid links to Yahia Fofana, with a new number nine also likely to be high up on their list of priorities.
