Phil Hay predicts Man City game for return of Leeds CB Berardi

Gaetano Berardi made his Leeds United comeback yesterday when he started for the Under-23s in their game against Crystal Palace on Monday.

But when will he be back for the first-team?

He suffered a serious ACL injury in July and he won’t be rushed back.

Athletic journalist Phil Hay thinks that his return could come against Man City on April 10.

After the news came through that Berardi was starting on Monday Hay said, “My mayhem radar is saying Berardi v Foden, April 10.”

Welcome back Bera!

Bera gave his all for us last season and then some.

His contract was set to expire at the end of the season but, unlike some other players, Bera signed an extension to see him through to the end of an extended season, despite the risk that put him at.

He suffered the ACL injury in that extension and we were delighted when Leeds did the right thing and gave him another year.

Now he could still see out his dream to play in the Premier League for Leeds.

He won’t be rushed back.

The West Ham game will likely come too soon unless something dramatic happens.

Hay thinks that he won’t come back until April, and he could be right.

Leeds Under-23s play twice this week and then twice again before the Man City game on April 10.

That sounds about right for a proper unrushed introduction back to first-team football.

Poveda could well come back sooner. He was only out for six games and we think he can make the bench for the West Ham clash.
