Maximilian Wober makes Leeds United transfer admission after injury

Max Wober is focused on fighting for his place in Daniel Farke’s team rather than pushing for a January transfer, the Leeds United defender has said.

Speaking to Kurier (11 November) ahead of making his playing return on international duty with Austria, Wober said that his ultimate goal is to get back fit for the Whites.

The 26-year-old has only featured once for Daniel Farke’s side since returning from his loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach, missing the last two months with a meniscus injury.

Wober said: “I have just returned from six weeks of rehab, and have only trained with the team for two weeks. I can honestly say that I am fine and ready.

“Things are going really well for us in Leeds, I understand the coach there has no reason to change anything. I have to be patient.

“I haven’t thought about (January) at all. The focus was now entirely on my knee, getting fit again.

“Now I want to play again, then we’ll see what the club wants.”

Leeds United will need Max Wober later this season

While there currently looks to be no way into the United side for Wober despite his return to first-team contention, there remain at least 31 games of a long Championship season ahead.

Pascal Struijk, Leeds’ current captain and clear first choice at left-sided centre-back, is undroppable at present, but the Dutchman’s injury record – particularly last season – suggests cover will be needed.

That’s where Wober comes into play, with the former RB Salzburg captain held in high enough stock by Austria to be called up for international duty despite having not played a minute for months on end.

Junior Firpo’s three-match suspension, one game of which has already been served, creates an opening at left-back, but Wober will be hoping firstly that he can come through the international break unscathed.

Attention will surely come his way in January, particularly if he’s still playing minuscule minutes, but the Peacocks would be wise to keep hold of Wober if they harbour serious promotion ambitions.
