Maxell Cornet's agent approached Leeds United about Elland Road switch
Maxwell Cornet’s agent has approached Leeds United about a potential move to the Premier League for the Lyon left-back, according to David Anderson.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon, the Mirror journalist reported that while Leeds are in the hunt to sign a “specialist left-back”, they are not interested in signing Cornet for the £20million price they are being quoted.
Cornet, 24, made 39 appearances in all competitions for Lyon this season, scoring four goals and supplying six assists in the process.
A lot of money
It remains to be seen how much Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa have to spend this summer but if they are not interested in a left-back for £20million, it suggests they might not have as much as they did last year.
Leeds splashed around £100million on permanent signings last summer after winning promotion from the Championship.
Rodrigo became the Whites’ new record signing while the left-back area was ignored by Orta and Bielsa.
However, with Ezgjan Alioski’s contract up at the end of this month, it’s clear that the left-back area requires immediate attention.
Cornet has served as an attack-minded left-back for Lyon this season and has even played on the wing for the Ligue 1 club.
The Ivory Coast international sounds as though he’d be a good fit but clearly that £20million price tag is too much.
If Lyon drop it to £15million, or something similar to that, then we could see Leeds become more prepared to do business.
Bielsa still needs to add to other areas of the squad though, especially in the centre of the midfield while a new goalkeeper to replace Kiko Casilla would also be nice.
In other Leeds United news, this exit-bound Whites player won’t be short of offers in the summer, according to John Hartson.
