Max Wober setback emerges in new Leeds United injury update

Maximilian Wober has been unable to take part in training at Leeds United after a reaction to his previous knee injury, Daniel Farke has said.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of facing Derby County on 29 December, Farke confirmed the Austrian has suffered a reaction in his knee after making his return from meniscus surgery this month.

Wober came off the bench to score against Derby in the reverse fixture at Elland Road on 7 December, but hasn’t been seen in a matchday squad since their match against Middlesbrough three days later.

In quotes reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post (27 December), Farke said: “He feels a bit of pain in the knee, still a bit sore.

“The knee where he had this surgery, little reaction after a bit of load for him in the recent weeks.

“Of course, disappointed for him and for us, because he was excellent when he was available – the two games (since he) wasn’t able to train.”

Maximilian Wober suffers fresh Leeds United injury setback

Although Wober has been seen in training since United’s 3-1 win over Middlesbrough on 10 December – in which he scored an own-goal – the Austrian has been lesser-spotted for much of this season.

The 26-year-old’s numerous injury problems since returning to Thorp Arch from his loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach have seen Wober make just five appearances so far this term.

Leeds United ace Max Wober spent last season on loan in Germany.

That includes a solitary Championship start – against Boro – and it remains to be seen if, even when fully fit, Wober can break his way into a back four which seems very settled at the moment.

Given the nature in which his first six months at Elland Road – ending in relegation – and subsequent exit on loan went, it’s no surprise to still see Wober being linked with a January transfer away [Salzburger Nachrichten, 30 November].

However, given his sheer lack of minutes this season and with the injuries piling up, even former club Red Bull Salzburg will be second-guessing the prospect of offering Wober an exit route from Elland Road.
