Max Wober prediction made in ‘Harsh’ verdict ahead of Leeds United v Middlesbrough

Beren Cross believes Daniel Farke would be “harsh” not to give Max Wober his first league start of the season when Leeds United host Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

The defender bagged a goal in the Whites’ last Championship game against Derby and put in a fairly solid performance.

Most of his season this term has been spent on the sidelines due to injury but now he’s back, he could soon become a key cog in Farke’s set-up.

Writing for the LeedsLive website (10 December), Cross shared his thoughts on the potential of Wober starting against Boro.

“It would be particularly harsh for Farke to not now give Max Wober his first league start of the season tonight,” he wrote.

“The Austrian has had to wait four months and several injuries to get to a point where the path is clear and he is sharp enough to start.

“Coming through more than 70 minutes on Saturday and scoring a goal should mean it’s a straightforward decision on Junior Firpo’s replacement.

“Schmidt and Byram are alternatives, but Jayden Bogle’s issue should further cement Wober’s chances.”

Max Wober could help further solidify the Leeds United defence

Leeds’ defensive line has been one of the best areas of their team this season. The partnership of Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk in the centre has been formidable and is one of the many reasons why the West Yorkshire outfit have been so dominant.

They may be second in the Championship table and behind their Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United but the fact that there’s only a one-point gap between them bodes well for Leeds.

Farke’s men are undoubtedly one of the strongest teams in the second tier and now that the likes of Wober and Ethan Ampadu are making their way back into the matchday squad, it’s hard to see how they won’t gain promotion.

Having Wober at left-back would hinder Leeds’ attacking threat on the left-hand side but, in return, they’d be getting a far more solid defensive showing and it would allow wingers such as Willy Gnonto and Dan James to push forward and create more.

Now that Firpo is out injured, the time for Wober to shine and prove his worth is now.
