Max Wober injury update emerges at Leeds United ahead of West Brom clash

Leeds United defender Max Wober is a doubt for the Whites’ Championship clash with West Brom, according to Adam Pope.

The BBC Sport journalist reported via X on Thursday (15 August) that the Austrian international is the only player who could miss the trip to The Hawthorns on Saturday (17 August) through injury.

Daniel Farke is also expected to be without Georginio Rutter for the trip to the Midlands, with the Leeds boss confirming he is close to an Elland Road exit after Brighton activated his £40million release clause [David Ornstein, 14 August].

Will Max Wober exit Leeds United amid transfer speculation?

After a season away from Elland Road, Wober finally made his competitive Leeds United return against Middlesbrough on Wednesday (14 August) but that could be the only start the Austrian gets for a while after this latest update.

His display against Michael Carrick’s side wasn’t dreadful, but it will have done little to drag the supporters back onside after he jumped ship last summer following the Whites’ relegation from the Premier League.

There have still been plenty of suggestions that the 26-year-old could exit Elland Road before the window slams shut at the end of August, with reporters tipping the Whites to drop their asking price in the final weeks of the month [Inside Elland Road, 8 August].

Such a move may not be possible if Wober is stuck on the treatment table. With each passing day, it seems to be more likely that the centre-back will still be a Leeds player when September rolls around.

Things can of course change very quickly in the transfer window and should the right offer be made, Farke will surely not stand in the defender’s way.

Ultimately, it seems likely that Pascal Struijk will return to the starting XI to partner Joe Rodon unless Wober makes a miraculous recovery to keep the Dutchman out of Farke’s side.

In other Leeds United news, Micah Richards has told Farke to “stop the rot” after new developments at Elland Road this summer
