Max Wober injury update emerges ahead of Leeds United clash v Burnley

Ralf Rangnick has admitted there is still a “question mark” over whether Leeds United defender Max Wober will feature for Austria against Norway.

The 26-year-old Whites defender played the full 90 minutes as Austria played out a 1-1 draw with Slovenia on Friday (6 September) despite struggling for minutes at Elland Road so far this season.

Austria conclude their fixtures in the September international with a trip to Norway on Monday (9 September) but it isn’t yet clear whether or not Wober will be fit to play a role for Rangnick’s side.

As quoted by Kicker on Monday (9 September) he said: “There is currently a question mark over Maximilian Wöber’s participation. We also have to see whether Phillipp Mwene is fully fit.”

Wober may not have been a regular under Daniel Farke so far this season, but the 26-year-old has shown during the international break that he is still capable of impressing at the top level.

Unless something drastically changes between now and the clash with Burnley, the Austrian international will likely have to settle for a place on the bench once again with Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk as the preferred partnership.

However, the Whites will still be hoping that the centre-back returns from international duty injury-free as they are not exactly blessed with loads of options in the middle of defence.

Ethan Ampadu is capable of slotting into the backline, but behind the Wales international Farke’s options are incredibly light and therefore Leeds simply cannot afford to see Wober ruled out for an extended period of time.

Hopefully, any fears over his fitness will be put to bed when Austria take to the field against Norway on Monday night.

There is still a chance the 26-year-old could feature from the off and even if he doesn’t Rangnick will likely provide a more concrete update.
