Matheus Cunha flirts with Leeds, Olympics to increase value

Leeds United are still flirting with a permanent move for Hertha Berlin attacker Matheus Cunha.

Berliner-Kurier have reported on their website that £23.2million should get a deal across the line for the Whites.

That could quickly change though, with Cunha still away at the Olympics with Brazil set for the gold medal match.

It is suggested that should Brazil win that match, it could have an effect on Hertha Berlin’s stance on any deal this summer.

The Germans would still be open to selling the South American, but his value could once again soar.

That would likely see it rise above £25million, and closer to the £30million that was suggested when these links first appeared.

Marcelo Bielsa wants a midfielder as well as an attacker, and that appears to be the first priority at Elland Road.

Works perfectly.

Cunha being away at the Olympics would make any permanent deal nearly impossible, so it has given Victor Orta time to concentrate on a move for a midfielder.

With the gold medal match approaching quickly though, these talks could start to progress in the final three weeks of the window.

Securing that medal as well as a major move to the Premier League would make this a summer to remember for Cunha.

The German outlet describes the Brazilian as “magic” and he would certainly add some great depth in the final third in West Yorkshire.

Pre-season has proved there aren’t many solid options behind Raphina, Jack Harrison and Rodrigo, so any injuries could create a problem.

It’s time to get this one done and end all speculation.
