Mateusz Klich sends Kalvin Phillips Twitter warning as Leeds pair learn WCQ fate
Leeds United pair Mateusz Klich and Kalvin Phillips will be facing each other in World Cup qualifying for the 2022 competition.
Poland and England have been drawn together in Group I alongside Hungary, Albania, Andorra and San Marino.
It will the first time the duo have played against each other on the international stage, and it comes months after Phillips met Tyler Roberts.
Klich has reacted to the news on his personal Twitter account, sending Phillips a warning to wear shinpads when they play against each other.
“Kalvin Phillips, I am coming for you, better wear this,” he joked.
Klich is obviously the top of the charts when it comes to banter at Thorp Arch, and it will be a great midfield battle when they meet.
The squad harmony is at an all-time high, and you can see that in every single post on social media since Marcelo Bielsa arrived.
Phillips and Klich play at opposite ends of the midfield, so it will be a direct battle between the pair if they are both selected.
The Yorkshire Pirlo loves a big battle and left a few fouls on Roberts when England met Wales during the October break so we don’t recommend Klich going into any 50-50s.
Klich certainly isn’t known for his defending or big tackles, so we think he’ll be safe.
The 30-year-old has only won 51% of his duels this season according to WyScout. Compare that to Phillips, who has won over 60% and there would likely only be one winner.
Having two players in World Cup qualifiers proves how far the Whites have come though, and long may this success continue.
