Mateusz Klich reacts to Leeds United fan footage after what happened v Coventry

Mateusz Klich’s affection for Leeds United is still evident as he took to Instagram to react to fans chanting his name during the 1-1 draw with Coventry City.

The Polish midfielder left the Whites in January 2023 after 195 appearances at the club, switching to life in America with DC United on a free transfer.

Klich reacted via Instagram to a video of Leeds chanting his song during the Coventry clash on Saturday 16 December, resharing it on his story with yellow and blue hearts.

Although he no longer plays at Elland Road, there is clearly a mutual respect between both parties, with Leeds fans still thankful for his six years of service.

Club hero

Klich became a fan favourite during his six-year spell at Elland Road, playing a key role in Leeds’ promotion back to the Premier League after 16 years outside the top flight.

Not only was he a general in midfield, putting in the dirty tackles, dictating play from deep and barking orders at his teammates, but also popped up further up the pitch with the odd goal in vital moments.

His 24 goals and 21 assists for the Whites speak for themselves are account for some of the most important moments in Leeds’ recent history.

Klich was reimagined under Marcelo Bielsa, playing all over the pitch – at centre-back, deep-lying midfielder, on the wing, and even as a second striker. The now-33-year-old was capable of deputising anywhere.

The midfielder would probably love to be part of Leeds’ current team, who are one of the most in-form squads in the Championship. Although that is not possible anymore, there is no doubt he is full of pride.
