Mateusz Bogusz distances himself from U23s amid Leeds loan exit talk
Mateusz Bogusz is keen to avoid a return to U23s action but suspects he could be ripe for another Leeds United loan exit in the summer.
The 19-year-old is currently in the midst of a temporary spell at Spanish Segunda Division side UD Logrones who ply their trade in the second tier.
Speaking on the LUFCFANZONE Podcast [Part 2, 20/03/21] the Polish midfielder stated his unwillingness to return to the Whites U23 team after gaining senior experience.
“I think it’s not my decision. I think I will still go on loan next season because the team plays very well, they play in the Premier League and I think I’m not ready to play in the Premier League or to just be a sub,” he said.
“I think I will go on loan because the U23s I don’t want to go back. When you’ve been in the first-team you don’t want to step back.
“So I think I will still go on a loan but it is not my decision. Maybe I come back for pre-season and the coach or the manager says I’m ready, but we will see.”
Spain spell starts to sour
After a decent start to life in Spain things have started to turn awry for Bogusz and Logrones.
The Spanish side are winless in their last 10 games and the Poland U-21 international has only started once in this run, way back on February 1.
In fact, he has failed to come off the bench or been left at home in four of the last six.
Bogusz tested positive for COVID-19 in January [UD Logrones club website] so perhaps he has felt some after-effects from this but a return of one goal in 17 Segunda Division appearances is not exactly earth-shattering.
He looks a long way off being ready for the first team but a spell back with the Leeds U23s may not be the worst thing in the world for him.
We’ve seen already this season the likes of Joe Gelhardt and Jack Jenkins feature on the first-team bench after impressive displays for the reserve side that are sweeping all before them in Premier League 2.
Bogusz may well be served to return to Thorp Arch and build himself back up in the U23s but by the sounds of it that decision will not be left to him alone.
