Mateo Joseph spotted on crutches days before Leeds United showdown v Cardiff City

Leeds United have been dealt another blow ahead of their Championship curtain-raiser against Cardiff City on Sunday 6 August as young striker Mateo Joseph was seen wearing crutches on Thursday (3 August).

The Whites are gearing up for their first game of the Championship as they host the Bluebirds at Elland Road, and have already lost the likes of Patrick Bamford, Georginio Rutter, Cody Drameh, Sam Greenwood and Junior Firpo to injury in pre-season.

And there could be a further concern for Farke at Elland Road with an image circulating on social media, of a possible sighting of young striker Mateo Joseph seen on crutches, seemingly this week.

It remains unclear the severity of any potential injury issue, or even whether it could well be Joseph or Rutter, but what’s guaranteed is that Farke certainly faces more headaches for Sunday’s season opener.

Blow

With Farke and the 49ers Enterprises desperately attempting to rebuild the squad this summer, after losing several of their key stars already, it certainly presents a chance for some of their impressive youthful talent to step up to the plate next season.

However, it looks as though, after some stunning showings in pre-season, Joseph could yet be another injury casually for Leeds United possibly hampering his own breakthrough in the team and much-needed development.

If the image is of Joseph, then Farke could well be without all three of his striker choices against Cardiff which begs the question of who the German coach will turn to when the game kicks off at Elland Road. It could well mean a start for Joe Gelhardt, with his Elland Road future uncertain.

With the Championship providing a very refreshing and ideal platform for many young players to develop and hone their craft in the first team, Joseph will have been a name at the top of Farke’s list to give some much-needed first-team opportunities.

Let’s hope this injury isn’t too serious because right now, Leeds United are in real desperate need of some attacking reinforcements.
