Mateo Joseph makes Daniel Farke admission, shares 'difficult' Leeds United verdict

Mateo Joseph has revealed Daniel Farke was surprised by the quality of the young players at Leeds United during pre-season.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post on Wednesday (18 October), the 19-year-old forward said the Whites manager is a “great coach” and that he has been “pushing” the young players.

The England U-20 international added that it’s going to be “difficult” to get into the German’s first-team plans, but that he is working hard to try and get as many minutes as he can at Elland Road.

“Obviously it’s a difficult task to get into the Leeds team,” said Joseph. “They obviously have a quality squad. They’re playing really good now. But obviously [I’m] working hard, trying to get as many minutes as I can in a club like Leeds and just put my head down and work hard.

“Daniel is a great coach from what I’ve seen. He’s pushing the young players, he was surprised with all the young players in the pre-season.

“It’s gonna be difficult because there are senior players with good performances this year. But it’s trying to get in that team [doing] whatever is possible.”

Promising

It doesn’t come as too much of a surprise to hear that Farke was impressed by the quality of the young players already at Elland Road.

The club’s academy has put in some excellent work over a number of years and produced talents that have been capable of competing in the first team.

It will be pleasing for the Leeds fans to hear that the manager has taken an interest in the younger players and not just focused on those in the first team.

He has handed Archie Gray his chance to impress in the senior side this season and the 17-year-old hasn’t let him down after putting in a number of excellent performances.

Joseph is yet to make an appearance for the Whites this season despite being named on the bench twice, but with some quality attacking options ahead of him, he will just have to remain patient and take his opportunity once it comes around.

In other Leeds United news, Adam Pope has been wowed by one behind-the-scenes man at the club.
