Mateo Joseph likely to join Leeds United senior team in mid-season training camp

Jesse Marsch is likely to bring Mateo Joseph with the Leeds United senior team for their mid-season training camp, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The 19-year-old has been a revelation for the club’s Under-21 side this season with 11 goals in Premier League 2 a division high alongside West Brom’s Reyes Cleary.

Despite coming from Espanyol in Spain, he could also be changing nationality soon as England look to call him up for the Under-20s World Cup in Indonesia, as reported by AS.

He has already made his senior debut this season in the League Cup against Wolves after being the club’s only January addition in 2022 under Marcelo Bielsa.

He then went on to come off the bench in the 4-3 defeat away at Tottenham Hotspur but he is yet to play for the senior team at Elland Road although the training camp could accelerate that happening.

It was a slow start to life in Yorkshire for Joseph but Bielsa saw the talent he had and made a special effort to bring him to Leeds United and now they are being rewarded.

He is very quickly developing relationships with a number of youngsters at the club after a big recruitment drive within the academy in recent seasons.

Sonny Perkins, Darko Gyabi, Sam Greenwood, Joe Gelhardt and Crysencio Summerville were all brought into the club from afar and made their way through the academy towards the first team in some capacity and Joseph appears set to join that list of names.

Marsch already has Rodrigo in the form of his life to lead the line so his chance to start might be some considerable time away, especially with Gelhardt and Patrick Bamford also in the queue, but if he keeps going like he is then it will only be a matter of time.

In other Leeds United news, an Aston Villa starlet was left in awe of this Whites ace after what he did against Tottenham at the weekend.
