Mateo Joseph injury news emerges ahead of Leeds United v Sheffield United
Leeds United attacker Mateo Joseph’s omission from the Spain under-21s side is not injury related, according to Joe Donnohue.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported on 15 October that the 20-year-old trained with the squad on Monday, 14 October.
The Spanish under-21s took on Malta on 15 October and Joseph was not even part of the matchday squad.
Via X, Donnohue wrote: “Appears Mateo Joseph’s omission from Spain U21 squad tonight isn’t injury-related. Head coach Santi Denia made 11 changes to team which beat Kazakhstan last week. Joseph trained with the team yesterday. Farke’s presser tomorrow will shed more light.”
Mateo Joseph has played regular for Leeds United this season
All eyes and ears will be on Daniel Farke’s presser as the last thing he would want is for yet another player to be ruled out with an injury.
Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and Max Wober are all out with serious injury issues and now losing someone in attack would be a damning blow.
As things stand, it seems that the 20-year-old was just rotated out of the side as there were eleven changes made to the eleven.
Even if fit, common knowledge would suggest that Farke starts Joel Piroe as he’s a proper goal scorer and Joseph can come off the bench.
The Dutchman has impressed this season in front of goal and the onus will be on him to perhaps be the leading scorer come the end of the season.
It remains to be seen if Joseph actually had a knock or if he’s probably left the camp early to train with his Leeds teammates ahead of the Sheffield United clash at Elland Road on 18 October.
In other Leeds United, an update has emerged on the club’s quest to finalise the Cheikhou Kouyate transfer.
