Mateo Joseph captain prediction made as Leeds United ace compared to Osimhen

Josuha Guilavogui believes that Mateo Joseph could become Leeds United captain one day after the work he’s seen him put in for the Whites this season.

Joseph has scored just two goals across all competitions this season but his work ethic and endeavour has endeared him to Whites fans.

And experienced midfielder Guilavogui hailed the youngster and even compared his characteristics to Victor Osimhen, the Galatasaray striker on loan from Napoli.

“It’s just to tell him he’s charismatic. He’s really charismatic and even during training he is like, you have just a few strikers you can see they can be captain,” he said to LeedsLive (21 November).

“Mateo, in his career, could be a captain because when he’s working for the team, when he is fighting for the team, he gives you this feeling ‘I will work even harder because this one is working as an example.’ I’m sure he will have a great career.

“He has this passion and I can see. I saw that in Victor Osimhen and look at what he is doing. I really hope Mateo can make it.

“He has great qualities. He’s very good one against one, good in front of the goal and, like I told you, he has this aura, this charisma he can achieve a lot.”

Mateo Joseph could be the long-term Patrick Bamford successor Leeds United need

There may have already been times this season when the Spaniard has been usurped by Joel Piroe but that doesn’t take away from the amount of talent Joseph has.

The two strikers have often interchanged in leading Daniel Farke’s forward line but, as was shown in Leeds’ pre-season, the quality he has is evident.

The recent injuries to Patrick Bamford, especially last season, left the Whites fairly light up front and while Piroe and Joseph have done their best to plug the gap until his return, neither of them are up to the level of the Englishman yet.

However, Joseph is still just 21-years-old and has plenty of time to develop into the player that Leeds need him to be and he could well become the Bamford successor that they’ve been vying for.

The fact that Guilavogui has said the Spaniard could become the club’s captain shows how highly regarded he already is at the club, which can only be good news for the youngster.
