Martin Keown: Patrick Bamford made me hide behind sofa in Leeds United loss v Arsenal

Martin Keown was left wowed by Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford in the 1-0 loss against Arsenal, admitting that he felt sorry for him at Elland Road.

The Whites striker changed the entire game after coming on at half-time but ended up missing chance after chance, including from the penalty spot.

Keown insisted that he is a big part of the expert Leeds press, and even made him hide behind the sofa watching along as the Londoners somehow left with three points.

Speaking live on BBC Match of the Day 2, Keown admitted he has not seen anyone give the Gunners bigger problems all season in the Premier League.

“If he could play every week, Leeds would be somewhat higher up in the table,” he said.

“I just felt sorry for him today. Of course, I’m sitting there as an Arsenal former player, hiding behind the sofa at times because it was that good. Look at how expertly they press. He is a part of this press to get the ball back, it’s a ferocious atmosphere there.

“I haven’t seen anyone give these two centre halves this amount of problems.”

Impossible.

How Leeds did not walk away with three points, nevermind one is beyond us.

It is easy to be angry at Bamford for his finishing, but he terrorised Arsenal and they simply couldn’t live with him, so it is a fine line between that and praise.

At the end of the day though, you pay your number nine to put the ball in the back of the net and that did not happen yet again for the Whites.

That makes it nearly four or five one-on-ones in his last two outings, as well as the penalty all missed, which only screams in the face of Andrea Radrizzani and the 49ers.

How much longer are we going to rely on that? It has been years and multiple transfer windows of everyone demanding a new striker, yet it hasn’t happened.

Based on this performance, Leeds will be fine this season but they need Bamford firing against both Leicester and Fulham to get all three points in both.

In other Leeds United news, this player could be first in the Elland Road boardroom as new contract talks may take centre stage
